從來就沒有說過“輕,別有份量”是準確地翻出“The Power of Lightness”,只是說這是有心思、有創意的演譯。作為廣告口號,本身就是有一定誇張,有時為了宣傳效果,愈有爭議就愈好。所謂“受眾”當然不是香港“牛頭角順嫂”,也不是在唐人街排隊打流感針的長者,蘋果的對象是青年中產,只要蘋果老細金主受落,這就是站到“道德高地”,學術討論固然重要,說說自己的看法,亦無須要是“學者”級別才有資格參予。已很久沒有在這論壇說什麼,只是唱唱歌,答答問題,“有點精力都省下來干活”、鏟雪。踏進2014年,天氣較冷,但這論壇的參予者底熱情不減,可喜難得。新春快到,預祝在紐約的朋友大吉大利,年年好景。

I'm not sure I would agree that "别有分量" could or should be considered a good translation for "the power of lightness", but I also think pk has a good argument that it is a unique way of handling it.<

I remember pk also mentioned "America runs on Dunkin" a couple of times that nobody ever picked up on. IMO, advertising slogans like these are not always the easiest to handle. They'd have to pay me quite a sum to even spend time thinking about it. (joking!)

轻量即分量, 轻量具有力量. To put it more plainly: 由轻巧便利造就的有力优势, or simply: 以轻巧制胜 ...

There's bound to be many better Chinese translations. But IMO they should all have one thing in common: to stay true to Apple's original message, and be easily understandable to their target audience.

鄧勤的“受眾”是美國的中下階層上班一族,圈餅往嘴裡一塞,喝一口咖啡,便上班去也,當然要到下班、賺到錢,才有土豆燒牛肉吃,因此,America Runs on Dunkin 便成了美國“貧下中產”生活的寫照,這是優閑一族、在星巴克用i-pad Air上網的青年中產所無法理解的。昨晚下了近英尺雪,雖然,行政人員要上班,鏟了雪,還是躲在溫暖的斗室,討論一下什麼是翻譯的“道德高地”好過。隱士也曾說過“做雞”的好處,相當精彩。在德州的朋友wherestip,退休生活好吧,有機會請來東岸一聚。

Thanks for the invitation, pk. I'm enjoying my retirement immensely. I'm a homebody, so staying in one place is just the ticket.

When I left New York for Texas, I thought about keeping my condo in Wappingers Falls, so I could travel to the Northeast part of the country whenever I wanted to. But the thought of the hassle taking care of a property in a remote state eventually made me scuttle that idea.

If I ever get off the dime, it would probably be the West Coast. I have 2 siblings in CA. I haven't seen them for what? - nearly 25 years.

今早才注意到 pk 原来的发言是 “輕,別有份量”。 我自己看漏了一个 "轻" 字,所以昨天说的话很多都是无的放矢,在此向大家道歉。

说半天, 还是英文理解太差,有很多 中文水平也令人狐疑。

Omega 亞米茄(歐米茄)從 1948 年開始用的廣告口號 “ the watch the world has learned to trust",好像至今還未有翻成中文。有說這口號是非常有力,替這手裱賺了不少錢,一句中用了二個 “the”,頗為大膽,但要害是 “has learned”,用得更絕,要把意思翻出來是不容易的。
