Happy Chinese New Year Jan 30, 2014

Yueyin,

I was wondering where pk found such a beautiful image of a matrix of Chinese drums. I guess they might leave the background intact but just replace the animal as time goes on.

Made in Chinatown Jan 30, 2014

Steve,

At my first glance, I had a feeling that those Chinese drums were not “made in China”, but “made in Chinatown”. This article explains why:

I like those stamps, including the Chinese drums.

Happy Chinese New Year!

谈春晚 Jan 30, 2014

刚看完小品《扶不扶》,其实想想还是很心酸的。本来扶起跌倒的老人是一种自然反应,一件理所当然的事,在社会现实中人们却往往先思量一番,生怕惹'麻烦'上身。这实在是可悲的。

That tells you how much I know about postage stamps Jan 30, 2014

These days all my bills are paid electronically; and almost the same goes for all correspondences.

What little I have to mail through the post office, I'm still plucking off the stack of "forever" stamps I got years ago, the ones that have the Liberty Bell design on them. The only design from the Chinese New Year series I've seen is the one issued in the year of the dragon - 辰年. It's hard to believe, but that was only 2 years ago?

2 Chinese dragon-themed stamps Jan 30, 2014

I got it now.

There were 2 dragon-themed stamps issued by the USPS. One was issued in 2000, 庚辰年.

The other was issued in 2012, 壬辰年.

The latter belongs to the Celebrating Lunar New Year series, which was commissioned to the Brooklyn artist Kam Mak.

I got the two stamps mixed up. Actually, I didn't have a big impression of the latter issued 2 years ago; except I do remember Yueyin showing an image of it here in the forum. As for the year 2000 issue, I think I still have a couple left sitting in a desk somewhere.

Steve,

That was a different series issued earlier by USPS.
