Hello to everyone. I was contacted too, yesterday , with the same e-mail quoted by Mrs. Chrisitine Houdy and I noticed immediately the very bad English which made me doubtful. So I decided to reply today to that e-mail, but then I discovered it is a scam. Thanks to all of you. Mrs. Chrisitine Houdy, I applied by the website of Translatorscafé.com, maybe you should write something there too. Paola

He contacted me too on Friday. I was happy at first, then I grew a little suspicious, because the mail was written at 20.00... why so late? But I found among sent mail my own letter to the address houdychris at gmail so I felt safe to answer. Yesterday contacted me again with the silly story of the travelers cheque... and I grew even more suspicious, but unfortunately I sent him my address. only later I found out this topic... I know I have been very stupid in doing this. I just would like to ask you what can he do now and if there is a way do report his behaviour to someone. He actually posted a work somewhere using the name of Ms Houdy, and as far as I know, this is a fraud.

The total percentage to pay ahead of job is 30% of the bill for the translation but unfortunately our associate mailed out the entire payment with her which is 4000e. See more Quite a character this Diego Alanson he's just sent me an e-mail with the following title: PAYMENT ERROR I am glad to inform you that i have received confirmation from the associate that payment has been mailed out today by mail. The total percentage to pay ahead of job is 30% of the bill for the translation but unfortunately our associate mailed out the entire payment with her which is 4000e. Please you are advise, confirm to me as soon as you receive the payment in your mail box by next week .. I will provide you with how to go about the balance. I honestly look forward to a fruitful and long partnership. You will receive the payment next week and then we shall proceed to the translation document. My boss handle her work one after the other so kindly exercise patient.. Thank you Regards DIEGO ALANSON The scam of course, is that he is sending more money than the amount quoted and he will later ask you to cash the Travellers' Cheques and send him the difference. Supposedly the cheques will be accepted by the bank and you'll get the money but later, perhaps a month later the cheques will bounce and you'll have to return the supposed 4000€ and our dear Diego Alanson will be home and laughing. So if anybody gets 4000€ in travellers' cheques from Diego Alanson do the right thing, tear them up and throw them into a wastepaper bin and for god's sake don't do the translation he's sent you. Best regards, Michael ▲ Collapse

I was sent the same e-mails too and the strange thing for me was the Euro traveller check thing. As soon as I said that I didn't accept that payment method, he didn't write back. That was when I checked in proz.com and saw what it was going on. Sure it is bad that people try to cheat us like that. The only reason why I am glad is because thanks to translation sites such as proz.com, we are able to know all these things and avoid problems.

Got contacted by "would-be Mr. Diego Alanson" yesterday. Fortunately, the scammer just made me waste my time answering his email. Anyway, I often google some sentences from the sample translations I receive: scammers often use general texts which are easy to find (and to copy&paste).
he contacted me too. I was asking him a lot of things and he just answered with the same e-mail as for all of you. In addition he is asking me to do the English>Italian translation.... and I'm only translate into my native language (Spanish) so... he said he read my cv... I don't think so! I don't think I'm losing more time with this guy. Ana María Pérez

I don't know if giving information on this site will help stop scammers, but at least it will make you feel you are doing something about it. Although, after taking a second look at the site, it does seem to be more concerned with female gold diggers and dating scams...

I understand the scammer is operating through a Gmail account. What if the users who received this obvious scamming correspondence addressed it to the Gmail administrators? You could provide a link to this thread as supporting evidence. This could lead to the scamming address being closed.
