I'm a little confused Nov 6, 2005

Robert, are you organising dinner together with Francis? I would like very much to join dinner, but it depends on the time you are going to book the table, as my flight only arrives at 8:00 p.m. Do you think I could still join it?

Mariana

want to have a tour Nov 7, 2005

Jerzy Czopik wrote:

We can organise a guided tour in Cracow for all participants and/or for the partners.
What I need to know is, when and how many people would like to go. The cost for a guide would be something about 100-150 Euros.
The offered languages are English and German, possibly French and Spanish (but I would need to ask for tat).

Please let me know here, who would like to join such group.
Thak you

Regards
Jerzy

I would be happy to take part in the organized tour too. I hope this will be possible.
Will it be done on Saturday? Or on Sunday?
Please count me in.

My proposal is as follows: I make a reservation and order one of these. Just send me e-mails: I need to have a rough estimate of number of people to attend.

Dinner Thursday evening - meeting time/point Nov 7, 2005

Robert Zawadzki wrote:

First of all - thank you, Robert, for going through the trouble of making the reservation. I really appreciate your kind efforts.

Suggestion: Could you let us know the time of the reservation? Better yet - could you set a meeting time and a meeting point (probably at the hotel) where we would all get together so we can go to the Angels together?

Question: You proposed to "order one of these". Since you spoke of the "Fire dishes", I suspect you mean you are going to order a "fiery" meat dish. Is this correct?

Thanks again, and see you in Kraków!

Volkmar

Dinner agenda etc. Nov 9, 2005

I thought about starting at 8 p.m., so people wishing to do some sightseeing are able to do that before. And at least one person (Mariana) will arrive later. I am not sure how many people will go from a hotel.

I can ask a friend of mine (I invited her to attend) to pick some of you at a hotel at 7.30. I will personally go straight to a restaurant. I can meet someone on Rynek - the main square. That should be covenient for those willing to have an unguided tour right after they arri

And it will be more convenient for me: I'm living closer to the Rynek than to a hotel.

Yes, I will order a whole piglet (called 'whole pork' in menu). We will not have to eat all of it if we do not want. However they say it is intended for 6 persons (perhaps 150 kg hungry ones, I tried it once. 4 men and 4 women barely managed it), and there is already more of us expected to show up. It needs to be ordered a week in advance so you would not be able to get it otherwise.

Thanks, Robert, I'll start fasting....

I don't think we need to be picked up at the hotel (at least as far as I am concerned). If needs be, people going to Pod Aniolami from the hotel could share a taxi.

Best,

Volkmar

Auschwitz - Salt mines in one day? Nov 11, 2005

Hello everyone,

looking forward to meeting you all.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to see Auschwitz and the Salt mines in one day? From their sites I see that they both close at 16:00 in November and the tour in total for both is about 5 1/2 hours. But how far apart are they? Are there any organized tours? Forgive me if I am repeating answered questions.

Thank you in advance for your time,

19.30h it is, Tuliparola. Just one question - how do you get the menhir from Holland to Karków? Excess luggage?

Visiting Oswiecim Nov 12, 2005

I would strongly advise against visiting the death camps - this is definitely not a casual tourist "sight" that you can simply "do" in a couple of hours.
I visited both Auschwitz and Birkenau when I was 21, and I had repeated nightmares for several more years.
I may have taken it too personally, but I think anyone would also take it personally.

It is a difficult moral issue whether or not you should visit the camps. Of course, you cannot turn a blind eye on history, but if you read a lot about the history of these camps, or you have some particular involvement (family members, people deported from your neighbourhood, etc.), you could visit the camps.
But if you just want to kill half a day (sorry for the metaphor) while you are in Krakow, I would strongly discourage you from visiting the place.

To answer your question, Oswiecim is about one hour (60 km?) to the West, while Wieliczka (salt mines) is about 15 km to the East of Krakow.

If you have a bit more time to spare, an interesting and more peaceful day trip from Krakow is the catholic pilgrimage town of Czestochowa (around an hour and a half from Krakow to NW).

Sharing a taxi from Belice Airport to System Hotel Nov 12, 2005

Francis Gregson wrote:

Thanks Volkmar,
I've just checked this page and wasn't aware until now that you had replied/commented.

I'm scheduled to arrive in Krakow at around 12.30 on Thursday, so I look forward to meeting up with you and perhaps doing some sight-seeing before dinner at the restaurant in the evening.

I hope others will join us, both conference delegates and their partners.

Best regards
Frank

Goddag Frank,

As I can see you are arriving on Thursday 24 in Krakow at 12.30 (presumably via Copenhagen, I suppose). My wife and I are arriving at 12.00 the same day from Athens via Milano. Would you be interested to share a taxi from the Belice airport to the hotel?. I presume you are also staying in System Hotel where the Conference will take place.
Med venlig hilsen,
George
