Bio
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, I am a native English speaker through and through!
I obtained an MA degree in Languages (Interpreting and Translating) at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. From there I proceded to join SIL, supporting linguistic research in minority languages.
In the last two years I worked to co-produce 10 illustrated dictionaries in minority languages in the Democratic Republic of Congo. My work partner and I led this project through from its creation and planning, working alongside locals to create Congolese illustrated dictionaries using Microsoft Publisher. The editing and typesetting was done ourselves. Among many skills, this required imagination, precision and dedication in order for all to be achieved; these are the same skills that I also seek to apply in my translating services. I place a high importance on close contact with partners in order to deliver an output that is culturally accurate.
Cross-cultural living in both France and Spain, as well as in Kenya, Uganda and the DR Congo have brought a depth to my own means of understanding and of expression through language, as well as a high level of understanding of my source languages, French and Spanish.
