Hi all,

Translating a marketing text for a pig museum and struggling to translate a few puns in a clever way.

I have this line I can't think of anything snappy for, any suggestions?

Eine schweinsgute Kombination

It's referring to the museum and restaurant attached.

The whole hog Like Phil, I've only ever come across "going the whole hog", i.e. including the article, "the".

I disagree I've never seen "going whole hog" before, though I see it does get Google hits. "Going the whole hog" is far more common.

You could say "A museum AND a restaurant: going the whole hog".

saugut Not sure if it is regional, but I would always use combinations with "sau" and not "schweins".... saugut, saulecker, sauteuer... to so my ears schweinsgut sounds like someone tried to be colloquial and missed by an inch... If I were in direct contact with the museum, I'd likely suggest to change it....

agree philgoddard : I don't think just "going the whole hog" works on its own in the context, because it's not self-explanatory. But it does work if you prefix it with a few words of explanation, as you have.

The museum restaurant - what better place to pig out?
The perfect place for pigging out after looking round the museum.

Just a couple of ideas. If the text is littered with puns, I'm assuming it's very light-hearted.

A swinishly good combination

"Swinishly good" actually produces some authentic native hits. It's no more likely to be misinterpreted than awfully good, terribly good etc. It's also closer to the original than the other imaginative offerings here.

Re Sau or Schwein: "Schwein gehabt" signifies good luck.

Re whole hog: I have never heard this expression without the the.
