With all due respect, may one observe that -- despite the writer's apparent, but misinformed, enthusiasm -- there are NOT "thousands of English-speaking Afghans" working as interpreters inside Afghanistan. The number aren't there, nor are most of those interpreters Afghans [as in Aghan nationals].

The majority of the bilinguals who support the US military and other entities of the US Government in the country are contract bilinguals who were found, recruited, assessed, processed for required security clearances (a laborious process which injects a significant delay and filters out a number of good candidates), and hired in the US and then trained and deployed to support their assigned units.

Some basic fact-checking by that writer would have produced a more-accurate and realistic presentation of the situation.
