It's not "in spite of" the current economic situation but precisely because of it that OTP interpreting along with its remote video cousin is taking off.

It's still cheaper to contract with an OTP LSP than having a qualified warm body present to do the work.

It'd be interesting to see what verifiable assurances can be given to ascertain that OTP interpreters are, indeed, qualified as well. The word or promise of the LSP company surely isn't cutting it ... See more

Exactly, and many companies are offering ridiculous rates for telephone interpreting, something like (the lowest I have ever had) 18USD per hour.
