I received a similar email this morning. I immediately suspected something wasn't right, especially since:
1. the email address the message is from is EMOND PUBLISHERS info@emmond.com (note the difference between the company's name -- with one M -- and the email address -- two Ms)
2. it's not addressed to me per se but rather to a (hidden) group of addresses, it seems

4. there are several misspellings throughout the message
The URL given for the company https://emond.ca/ and the name of the sender, Natalie Berchem, do appear to be legit, according to what I could find on LinkedIn.
Please take care and don't fall for scams!

The same email address, the same contact person's name, even the same rate.
And the file to be translated was attached to the first email, without any request of signing something like an NDA. | | | expressisverbis Portugal Local time: 09:27 Member (2015) Inggris menyang Portugis + ... This is strange... | Feb 20 |
I have received a job notification from that same company via Proz.
Here it is:

If they are those scammers, this job post needs to be deleted and the company banned.

Wow, scammers are getting bolder, not just using TM-Town as their hunting field shamelessly, but now also posting jobs in here.
Perhaps they are taking advantage of the site endless update and the frequent bugs/glitch since last year.

I have received an e-mail from them with the following title: http://www.proz.com/job/2150570 English into Portuguese requesting a 34 page English into Portuguese project and I have done 21 pages already (not delivered as of yet)!
I was fool until doing a research about this job posting to find their address and nothing. Now I ended up with this Scam posting.... See more February 23rd, 2025.

Not being responsible for running a site where scammers fool paying professionals was what I needed to stop paying an annual subscription. As if 90%+ bottom feeders and "agencies" from China, the Middle-East, and what have you with their price over quality motto weren't bad already.
No thanks, I'll keep doing my thing out of here. | | |
Hey, everyone.
Yep, I fell for it. This was actually my first scam in almost 7 years as a translator.
I guess I must not be very good, 'cause I did not immediately notice the double "M's" in EMMOND, LOL.
It must've been the same file, cause it had 33 pages--a lecture about Human Environment, Sustainability, etc.

This is when I got cold feet because the area code is from Massachusetts, not Toronto, where the company is located.
Anyways, just wanted to share. I'm still popping open a beer to "celebrate" the end of another gig.

Very often, after you completed part of the translation, they'll ask you to pay a sum in order to get paid (through a fake online bank), or they'll send you an overpayment fake check after completion of the job, asking you to refund them the exceeding sum.
Now, even if they only made $100 per scam, imagine the total if they successfully scam thousands of people. | | | I have been scammed too! | Mar 22 |
I have just done a job for them of over 15k words.
The guy from primecashier or whatever told me that I have to open an online bank account in Canada to be paid.
Anyways, I will be calling the actual company on Monday to let them know and see what they can do.
This is also absolutely unprofessional of ProZ to allow these scammers on the platform.

Thank you to everyone who has reported this scam. We take these issues very seriously and appreciate your vigilance.
Most job offers on ProZ.com are manually screened, but in this case, the post was automatically approved by the system. The job in question was posted on February 20 and was flagged as fraudulent within 12 hours by the moderation team, at which point it was removed (thanks, Natalie!). We sincerely regret that it was visible even for this short time, and we are taking measures to ensure that such offers do not go public without proper manual vetting.
We have blocked all domains and email addresses associated with this scam that we are aware of. However, if anyone has been in contact with the impersonators, please let us know here or reach out via ProZ.com support, at proz.com/help
Your reports help us identify new fraudulent accounts and strengthen our protective measures.
While ProZ.com is not legally or professionally involved in most of the business relationships established through the site, we continuously work to keep the platform safe. Unfortunately, online scams across all websites and platforms are at an all-time high, so we encourage everyone to remain cautious when interacting online.
For that reason, I want to take the chance to share some more information about impersonation scams and how to spot them! Scammers often impersonate real companies or professionals to gain trust and exploit job seekers. Some common warning signs include:
— Generic or poorly written messages that do not match a company’s usual communication style.
— Requests for some sort of purchase to start working or a fee that will allow you to access your payment.
— Emails that do not match the company's official domain (e.g., using free email services like Gmail, Yahoo, or slightly altered domains).
— Urgent or unrealistic offers that seem too good to be true.
If something feels off, take a moment to verify details, check company websites, and reach out to official contacts before proceeding. And, of course, you can always reach out to us directly and we'll be happy to help you corroborate any offer you've received through ProZ and, if we are able to help, even outside of the site. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Emmond.com Trados Business Manager Lite |
