I apologize in advance as I am not sure where to post this question.

I have been wondering what is the correct spelling (pluriel ou singulier).

For example:

Souliers pour enfants or souliers pour enfant

Sac à dos pour enfants or sac à dos pour enfant

Lotion pour adultes or lotion pour adulte

Chandail pour hommes or chandail pour homme

Can someone please clarify?

Actually you can say both but preferably use singular : pour adulte

Hello,

The noun complement of another noun introduced by the preposition "pour" ("for" in English) is put in the plural if it designates several objects:

souliers pour enfants => souliers pour des enfants (for several children and not only one child)

So, in your examples, you put the plural.

I wonder what happened to Proz.com between yesterday and today. Are we witnessing a disappearing act like the Houdini escape? Yesterday this question had at least two answers and today… none! What’s going on?

The same happened to me in a recent thread I have opened last week. Even my agrees simply vanished into thin air...
