Programme Highlights
  • 1 calendar year full time (2 years part time), starting late September
  • Language combinations offered: French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Welsh into English; English into Chinese, Greek and Welsh
  • Welsh to English Conference Interpreting module
  • Optional Polish-English and Portuguese-English Consecutive and Liaison Interperting modules
  • Emphasis on journalistic, administrative and technical texts
  • Pre-sessional English course available to non-native speakers
  • Half-day pre-sessional Computing Skills introduction
  • Advanced Language Technology component: professional word-processing, Web research and concordancing, Systran 4 and web-based Machine Translation systems, computerised terminology management using TRADOS Multiterm and Star Termstar, translation memory systems including Atril D�j�-Vu, TRADOS Translator's Workbench and Star Transit, software localisation tools
  • (For single language-pair students only): option to study another language (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Welsh) at Beginner's or Intermediate Level (Catalan is also offered at Beginner's Level only)
  • Wide range of other options in linguistics, language technology, translation studies etc. available to single language-pair students
  • Part 2: choice of academic Dissertation (ideal preparation for PhD research) or two Extended Translations (simulated professional projects using language technology tools)
  • Outstanding computing facilities, including a specialised 40-seat Translation and Media Lab (opened February 2002) and a dedicated 9-seat Electronic Text Centre
  • Excellent library and campus facilities, superb seaside location
