I am American, 44 years of age, married to a French national and have lived in France for 14 years. I have been working as a freelance translator since 2002. My clients are mostly from the tourism sector, but I also treat texts related to the food industries, agriculture, and have collaborated on projects popularizing such subjects as geology, botany, cuisine, archology and history, amongst other things. I have a masters in French litterature, a Bachelors in Film-Art, a TESOL (English teaching) certificate, and have taken on-line translation courses with the University of Toronto.
I do not have a technical specializaion, but am very good at marketing texts, by which I mean making a text easy and enjoyable to read. I have always enjoyed writing and have "a way with words". Texts in French that seek to attract and entice the reader require considerable re-working in English, and I often feel that I am render a high quality text, crafted strictly to appeal to the target reader.
I can also leave poetics behind and vocus on clarity and brevity for purely "technical communication" purposes (not to be confused with technical translation"). Again, I focus on the purpose of the text and the needs of the reader when working. |
