I found the following paper (in the link), which talks about chair design and refers to "sarg" a lot on p.26. Sarg is used here in a way that could just mean frame or "piece of wood". I don't know if it's of any help...

protective (frame) rim
a "sarg" is a protective rim around smth. Maybe superfluous with the "frame" (="ram" as you know).
