Le Himmeli est une décoration de noël traditionnelle réalisée en paille issue des pays nordiques (Finlande, Suède, pays Baltes...).
Il s'agit de mobile pyramidaux parfois complexes réalisés à base de pailles (paille de seigle traditionnellement, on en trouve à présent en laiton ou paille plastique) suspendus au plafond. Ils auront été fabriqués durant l'automne resteront accrochés dans les intérieurs jusqu'au printemps, comme ornement de Noël.

That himmeli are still made in Finland (and similar mobiles known as pajaki in Poland) is testament to the remnants of old agrarian traditions that have become incorporated into the more modern celebration of Christmas that has largely superseded older harvest/midwinter festivals.

One of many traditional elements of interior decoration in the Polish villages of the past was an elaborate geometric ornament hanging down from the ceiling. It is called ‘pająk‘ (plural form: ‘pająki‘) and a literal translation of the name is a ‘spider‘. In some places of Poland it was also called a ‘kierec’ (name native to region of Kurpie in northeastern Poland), or – jokingly – a ‘żyrandol’ (chandelier). Czy "pająk" jest takim żyrandolem? Jeżeli nie zawiera żarówek, świeczek itp. i jest tylko ozdobą, to może warto zostawić oryginalny wyraz (w liczbie pojedynczej) z ewentualnym tłumaczeniem na angielski (po prostu: spider)? I dodać zapis fonetyczny w wersji zrozumiałej dla Anglosasów, a może nawet plik dźwiękowy. ;-
Ja uwazam, ze albo mozna to nazwac 'straw chandeliers' albo po prostu 'protective decorations' - w nawiasie przy 'pajaki,' jak Frank podal.
