Here is the sentence (well, partial sentence, but this is what matters):
各種重要な設定等が多岐に渡って保存されています
Does it mean the most important settings are saved "several times" or "to several places" or "on several occasions"?
Is there a better way to put this?

I'm willing to bet that what this (typically bad) Japanese is trying to say has adjectival 多岐に渡って (everything including the kitchen sink)modifying 各種設定 (settings in English, not various types of settings BTW). The archetypical example, of course, is the way Windoze programs--except the Microsloth ones still using INI files--store everything in the registry.

Comment: "Thanks Maynard, I was hoping you would jump in. Yes, you are absolutely right, 多岐に渡って modifies 設定and not 保存. After reading and re-reading over and over the entire chapter, (yeah, pretty bad style of writing) things became more clear. It would not make sense for this software to save the same settings to various places (what for, and how would that be useful?), but it does make sense to emphasize that there are all different kinds of settings to be saved. BTW, this is not Windoze, it is more likely an embedded platform. (I have partial informatin only, I can only guess.)
Thanks for the help."

various types of important settings are saved in several configurations
I think "多岐に渡って" here corresponds to none of your suggestions, and "多岐に渡って保存され" means that "various types of important settings" are saved in several different configuration files, in several different configurations, or in several different ways.
BTW, "各種" modifies "重要な設定等", and I don't think you have to have a superlative form of "important" here, since it is not found in the original Japanese.

a wide variety of ways
eijiro has 'a broad array of; miscellaneous; wide variety of ways' for 多岐にわたる.
thus, your sentence would be "There is a wide variety of ways in which each of the important settings can be saved."

each important setting, etc, is stored after going thru the various selection options
Each setting to be stored may have many different options and selection branches that the user would be prompted before the particular setting is completed.
