メトロポリタン歌劇場について書かれた本の中の一文です。hairdressersは「美容師」ではなく、何か他のものを意味しているのではと思うのですが、どうでしょうか？

ちなみに英辞朗でdivaを引くと「女装趣味の男性、ドラッグクイーン」という意味があり、またhairdresserを下記のスラング辞書で引くと、
「Any person who drives a two seater sports car or similiar, ie TOYOTA MR2 etc.
If the car in question is red and the driver is male, this is even more true.」
と載っています。
