Here it goes: “(チームが) キャンプ 2へ”上って”いく途中、雪崩が”下って”きた。
In summary, the second idea had better be presented in the following manner: (チームと雪崩の) 上り vs. 下り, and, 雪崩が下ってきた。

キャンパーが通信ログ内で書いている報告なので、 あくまで普通の文の中に織り込まれたものなので、descent を訳さず「雪崩」でもいいかなと思ったんですが、主語が「moment of shock 」であるし、恐怖心が感じられる内容なので恐怖が伝わってくる言葉は使ったほうがいいかな・・・と。

「avalancheという言葉にはもう既に押し寄せるや突然襲い掛かるという意味がある」ということですが、日本語の「雪崩」には「襲いかかる」という意味はありません。だから、だから「雪崩の襲来」という言葉があるのでしょう。 文脈上「雪崩」でも構わないともっておりますが、descentを訳すならば、cinefilさんの「突然のー」が良いと思いますし、私の提案も逸脱しているとは思っておりません。
