A type of sound, usually a human voice, that appears to come from nowhere to offer commentary on the events in the film frame. Voiceovers usually appear in documentaries, but also sometimes in fiction films.

ボイスオーバー (Voice Over) とは、テレビ番組のニュース番組やドキュメンタリーなどの外国人へのインタビューや外国人の専門家などの参考発言や情報などで、原語の外国語を小さくバックで流しつつ、翻訳された日本語を喋ること。V.OまたはVOと略される。<br /><br />吹き替えと混同されやすいが、ボイスオーバーの方が数段難しい。基本的に本人の言葉を会話の冒頭で少し聞かせつつフェードイン。最後は少し早めに切り上げ、本人の言葉で会話が終わるようにフェードアウトする。
