確かにjoinには合併する、と言う意味があります。

しかし、"we acquired a significant shareholding in B"と書かれているのであれば、単なる合併だけではなく、買収も含まれると思います。つまり、A社がB社の株の大半を取得(買収)したことになるのではないでしょうか。

合併は間違いではありませんが、私が提案したように、買収も入れた方が良いと思います。繰り返しになりますが、それは上にも書きましたように、"we acquired a significant shareholding in B"、つまりB社の株も大量に取得し、研究施設や特許を利用できるようになるには、少なくとも半数以上の株を取得しなければ難しいと思うからです。研究施設はともかく、フランスの企業(B社)が苦労して手に入れた特許も利用できるようになるくらいですから買収に近いだけの出来事があっとと推測できます。

回答ありがとうございます。A社はアイルランド、B社はフランスの企業です。他にも joins forces したことによりA社はB社の研究施設や特許を利用できるようになったとありました。この場合は合併よりも買収の方が適切でしょうか? |

: 私も先ほど「提携する」と考えていました。 間違いではないのですが、A社がB社を買収(or 合併)したということが明らかな場合には、提携、協力の意味はふさわしくなくなります。
