Change log

Oct 10, 2008 12:54: Vasilisso changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Vicky Papaprodromou, Spiros Doikas, Vasilisso

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

BASE is an acronym standing for the four main types of objects that are jumped. They are Building, Antenna, Span (bridge), Earth (cliff) and for a jumper to attain a BASE number they must jump from each of these objects. BASE jumping in the UK is at present quite underground and carried out by probably less than 100 people in the UK and 1500 worldwide.

BASE can be a dangerous sport and if not approached in the correct manner can result in serious injury or death. Margins of error are small as most BASE jumps are performed well below skydivings percieved minimum altitude and often next to solid objects such as cliffs and dams.

Contrary to popular misconception the sport is not full of "Point Break" adrenaline junkies. There is a wide cross section of society that enjoy the quest for a feeling of freedom like no other. Soldiers, solicitors, IT consultants, plumbers and students alike all participate in "stepping over the edge".
