In the UK, the planning project selected concerned the redevelopment of the Ravencourt shopping centre, in Halewood, which lies to the south of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley. Ravencourt was identified as being in need of major refurbishment. Funding to regenerate the shopping centre is expected soon from national and European sources. One of the funding sources, Pathways, is designed to help EU regions improve their economic performance. Halewood Pathways is one of 38 Pathways projects throughout Merseyside, providing an opportunity for local residents to become directly involved in economic planning and investment in their area. Plans for the refurbishment of Ravencourt had not been prepared by the time the PICT activities started, and local residents were presented with the challenge to work out rough design options, helped by the John Moores University project team.
