Danish term

fraflytningsskat

Danish to English Bus/Financial Law: Taxation & Customs
I am interested in knowing if I can use the phrase "rules governing tax on shares in connection with vacation" in American English - and be sure that "vacation" is not understood as "holiday" but as "change of address" - or whether I should simply write "change of address" instead of "vacation".

Comment to answerers Thanks for your inputs. In the context I have, I choose to use "rules governing tax on shares in connection with change of address" - it is terribly long (in Danish only "regler om fraflytningsskat på aktier") but there is no doubt about the meaning.

Rules governing tax on shares relating to change of address

I wouldn't use vacation because it is the American equivalent for the UK English "holiday".
If I were you - I'd simply use "change of address" to avoid any misunderstandings.

Also, one would say "relating to" rather than "in connection to", but that is just a matter of opinion, I suppose. =)

Hope that helps. =)

Thanks Michele =)
disagree Charlesp : - it has to do with change of domicle for tax purposes. To Respond to note re "exit-beskatning" -: maybe, but that is what it is called in Danish (we don't often get the chance to make up what terminology is in common usage - though it would be interestin

What I suggested makes more sense than the exit-tax. The concept may be right, but the term itself doesn't sound right (referring to Exit tax)..
agree Joy Christensen : except that I think it does have to be "in connection to/with" and not "relating to" in the "tax on shares" context

well, not really sold, but treated as being sold whe one relocates their domicile for tax purposes outside of Denmark. That is why it is sometimes called an "exit tax," but I wouldn't translate it as that.

The shares are treated as being (as if they were actually) sold for tax purposes.

tax on notional/deemed/disposal triggered by expatriation

Maybe should be explained on the lines of Charles's answer. This kind of tax would not be tolerated in the UK.

Example sentence:

UK dedicated tax database, offering information and advice to UK taxpayers ... in addition, no chargeable gain arises on the deemed disposal by the trustees ...

agree Charlesp : much better stated! of course, >Tom always does, as the fine lawyer he is. (though I'd be carefui with the word "expatriation," as someone not trained in law might misread it as 'deportation.'

Thanks. You may also be thinking of 'extradition': a mix-up voiced by 'human rights lawyer' D'Arcy (Colin Frith) in the Bridget Jones Diary film/movie. His client was being 'deported' for overstaying his visa & not extradited i.e. to face charges abroad.
