she offered him ripe dates wrapped in/carried in a veil

قناع
means veil or mask according to Hans Wehr. It also means pericardium, the membrane that encloses the heart and roots of the great blood vessels (Merriam Webster).

رطب
means fresh, ripe dates (Hans Wehr) (collective).

She was carrying dates in a veil or a pericardium (perhaps of an animal). Unless someone can tell you which of the two they used to use to carry/package dates, I would go with veil.
