Discussion

Heather Shaw (asker) Sep 29, 2008:
The context directly before this mentions that the son is feeling that he has lost his father because when the father became king he became busy with affairs of state, but in reality, the son didn't lose his father's care, rather, his father's care expanded to include not only him and his siblings, but the entire nation as well.

exclusivity/the exclusive role of the father

A father's love (like a mother's love) is exclusive -- or at least that is how their children feel. They want to have their parents's love and caring to be directed to them exclusively.

A leader's caring for his/her people, however, is inclusive -- at least that is how the people expect it to be.
