This is a from a letter outlining hospital treatment of a person suffering from ["??????? ???????"?]--excess of worms??? No further details/symptoms of the illness are given, aside from saying that the person underwent an operation for it.

encoding problems the arabic does not seem to be appearing on the page when i cut and paste from the source document. the transliteration for the term in question is za`edeh al-doudiyeh. the arabic sentence in which it appears reads: "the citizen reported that on 12/12/03 he underwent an operation to remove [za`edeh al-doudiyeh] and he left the hospital on 12/17/03."

The organ itself is called the appendix. The medical condition is called appendicitis.

Yeah, it does look like an extra worm, doesn't it.

Yes, that is the way the Arabic medical report should have been written. Alas, it was written not so very well, using the name of the organ instead of the name of the condition. However, the context clearly indicates what was meant.
