English term
UUID List
English to Chinese
Marketing
Internet, e-Commerce
A universally unique identifier (UUID) is a 128-bit label used for information in computer systems. When generated according to the standard methods, UUIDs are, for practical purposes, unique. Their uniqueness does not depend on a central registration authority or coordination between the parties generating them, unlike most other numbering schemes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universally_unique_identifier)...
This term is used by an e-commerce site. My question is should I spell out UUID in my Chinese translation as "通用唯一标识符(UUID)清单“? Or should I leave UUID in English, untranslated? Which practice is considered standard or professional now? Back in the days when I was in college, we were taught that as a professional translator, you should translate acronyms into Chinese and put the original English term in bracets after your translation. But recently I have found that the rules seem to have changed!

Thank you for bringing my attention to the other translation. Actually I think "通用唯一识别码" is a better translation. |
