Portuguese term

pauta

Portuguese to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations Tips for writing a good newsletter
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a little help with how the word "pauta" is being used in this sentence. I think it would help to know a synonym for it. The sentence is from a piece giving companies advice on how to write a good newsletter:

Apesar de muitas pautas derivarem das redes sociais, a newsletter precisa trazer informações ainda não trabalhadas.

I've translated the sentence as:

Despite a lot of discussions being derived from social media, the newsletter needs to bring information which has yet to be explored.

The variation is Brazilian Portuguese.

Any insight is appreciated.

Discussion

afonso santos Apr 19, 2021:
specific for newsletters Although many topics (come from) social networks, the newsletter needs to bring information that has not yet been explored.

Apesar de muitos tópicos serem provinientes das redes sociais, o boletim informativo precisa trazer informações que ainda não foram exploradas.
Mark Robertson Apr 19, 2021:
Suggestion Apesar, embora, although and despite are used to connect ideas or facts which contrast with each other or are surprising when linked.

That being so and IMHO, the source text is weak (and semi-literate, as apesar is always followed by the preposition de, or its variants) because there is no contrast between, or surprise generated by, the fact that many discussions start on social media and the fact that newsletters should contain fresh information.

The upshot is that the translator's task, i.e. to produce a workable target text, is hampered. "Garbage in, garbage out."

The word still, or nevertheless, can be used in the target text to solve this problem by introducing the necessary contrast, or surprise.

So:

Despite that fact that many topics are raised first in social media, newsletters should STILL contain fresh information.

"Although discussions may derive from social media..."

I'd go with "Although discussions may derive from social media..." but I may be off-target given the full context and tone are not 100% clear to me. Either way, just mh2¢, I hope it helps.
Example sentence:

"Although discussions may derive from social media..."

rule / norm

Penso que aqui o sentido de pauta é "norma", "regra", inclusivamente "modelo", "etiqueta" (netiquette), orientação.

Aquilo que dita a forma, o tom, a moda, as tendências são as redes sociais. É nas redes sociais que se pode captar o que há de mais recente em formas de expressão/comunicação, tendências.

O verbo pautar-se: guiar-se
2. Servir de regra, ou pautar (-se), orientar (-se). [td. : No capitalismo, o mercado regula a economia.] [tdr. + por : Regula sua arte por rígidos princípios: Regula -se pelo exemplo dos grandes compositores.]

disagree Bett : sorry, but the noun "pauta" does not mean that. in the context presented "pauta" [Jornalismo] Roteiro que contém os assuntos mais importantes a serem incluídos na edição de um jornal, de uma revista, de um programa de rádio ou de televisão.

Apesar de muitas pautas derivarem das redes sociais...

Hi! I would translate "pauta" as "topics".
The sentence is about discussion topics based or created by social media. I think that "topic" would work in this case!
Example sentence:

Despite a lot of topics being derived from social media, the newsletter needs to bring information which has yet to be explored.

This is very helpful, thanks!
