German term

Stabrichten

German to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting processing of steel ingots/bars
Walzen, Zuschneiden & Stabrichten – eines unserer Spezialgebiete is the whole phrase. I am concerned that I have been offered (Bing) "seamping" as a translation of "Stabricten", but this is a term I have never heard of before, despite many years in the steel industry, albeit almost 40 years ago. Is anyone able to clarify this for me, please?

Chris Pr Aug 23, 2020:
Indeed.... ...'milling' would be entirely correct...for figurative-only 'planing'.

Hi Andie,
Sounds great!
Have a good weekend -

Hi Barabra;
I greatly appreciate your efforts on my behalf in this case.
There has been so much support for your original answer that I am going to go for this suggestion.
By the way, as far as I am aware you can "plane" slabs of steel, but it is called "milling", at least this is what it was called when I was doing metalwork in school 55 years ago.
Kindest regards,
Andie

Hi Andrew,
I've never heard of the word 'seamping' or anything like it, so unfortunately I can't help you there.
What I did was, I answered your question the way you put it.
If 'seamping' is the real issue, why not place another question and ask for it? You never know... Someone might be familiar with it.
Good luck!
Cheers
Barbara

Note from asker:
Hi Barbara! So dachte ich auch, aber, wie gesagt, ich habe das Wort "seamping" vorgeschlagen bekommen und wollte wissen ob das vielleicht korrekt seine könnte.

Thanks, Brent!
agree Steffen Walter : "Seamping" suggested by the asker doesn't even seem to exist, let alone in conjunction with "Stabrichten". The first series of Google hits for this unheard-of term (is it a typo, after all?) are of questionable quality, including sources such as Alibaba.

Considering the context...

Should it perhaps be Abrichten der Stäbe, i.e. (Stab-)Abrichten?

Then perhaps planing, dressing, straightening, trimming, trueing
Peer comment(s):

neutral Chris Pr : And how exactly do you 'plane' a steel slab...? // As Yorkshireman states above, it's an official dictionary term in metallurgy...

Could it not just be a typo for Abrichten, without any Stäbe? // So if it's in a dictionary, it must always be right? OK. We'll agree to differ on that. :-)
neutral Steffen Walter : "Stabrichten" is correct. See, for instance, https://www.stahleisen.de/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Jahrbuc... (p. 18, entry 7050) and https://stock-schneid-tec.de/lohnbearbeitungen/ ("Stabrichtanlage").
