German term

AE-Wachstum

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Sales report
Portugal nimmt mit 84% AE-Wachstum eine sehr gute Entwicklung und steigert den Marktanteil auf 19,3%.

I've had this abbreviation in several previous sales reports (industrial equipment) from this client, but they have so far failed to tell me what AE stands for. I strongly suspect that 'growth in AE' won't work in English.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion

Lancashireman (asker) May 31, 2016:
Thanks to all contributors This was indeed about the performance of the sales team in Portugal, so securing new orders fits perfectly in the context.
Darin Fitzpatrick May 31, 2016:
Agree with Ramey that new orders refers to a company or business sector, not typically an entire country.
The context should make it clear whether the economy of the nation of Portugal is meant (in which case the agriculture sector may be meant) or whether this is a synecdoche for a particular company's activities or branches in Portugal.
Ramey Rieger (X) May 31, 2016:
New orders? A business yes. A country? No. But this is probably going to get lost in translation.
dkfmmuc May 30, 2016:
Just had to rephrase my discussion entry Without full context I can only assume that the term AE-Wachstum is corresponding to the "Wachstum der Agrar- und Ernährungsindustrie".

English version would be something like growth of the agricultural industry and food (processing) industry.

However I am not sure any more due to the two answers given.

Increase in new orders

Might this work, with AE standing for Auftragseingang?

Therefore AE-Wachstum would be Auftragseingangswachstum?
Note from asker:
That makes sense. Thank you very much for this.

agree Darin Fitzpatrick : Looks like you got there first.

Thanks, Darin.
agree Ted Wozniak : This would be my logical assumption, but I would use incoming orders.

(new) order growth

AE = Auftragseingang = new orders
Also orders received, incoming orders.

That makes sense. Thank you very much for this.

agree Björn Vrooman : Also: order/contract bookings. I rather agree with you because you put "new" in parentheses. I'm never sure what people want with "old orders," if you catch my drift.

agree dkfmmuc : Thanks. It seems that it is often used in political context, e.g. here: https://www.bmel.de/DE/Landwirtschaft/Markt-Handel-Export/_T...
