Great poll! Sep 27, 2007

I think this was a great poll, and one that could return now and then as it would be interesting to see if the result would change.

I am surprised to see Legal getting so many votes, but I suppose it is early days yet.
Best regards,
Cecilia

PS. Today I answered Scientific (medical), but tomorrow I would have answered Literary. DS.

PSS. I see that just while I was writing this everything changed and that Technical now is in the lead...

Financial! Sep 27, 2007

Financial translations for me, just like every single day. I know it's hard to believe, but that's what I like most.

I spent all day in high school interpreting for teachers and parents. Interesting and stress free.
And from tomorrow two and a half weeks holiday. Isn't life beautiful?

Currently, CRO/EC correspondence concerning clinical trials.

This morning it was the manufacturing process and QC tests for one drug, followed by the validation of the transfer of the production and quality control process for a different drug from one site to another.

And I'd rather be doing mine than any of yours - isn't being a specialist freelancer great? We all get to do what we like best!

Technical Sep 27, 2007

In fact, I am/have been working on 3 different projects today: technical in the morning (electric components), then IT in the early afternoon, and now I'll be switching to a manual for a cultivator (so, technical again)

At the moment... Sep 27, 2007

I'm working on a literary translation. Actually an academic text (which may or may not qualify as literary, depending on my mood).

Later, I will be translating a technical patent.

I need a blank for 'two or more of the above'.

Day in, day out ...

Well, I suppose it could get tedious if it were only contracts, articles of association etc, but I make sure I have a nice mix of pleadings, judgments and some academic work too.

As the underlying facts to a dispute can be from every conceivable area, it's never boring.

Every two months I do a large staff magazine for a Dutch multinational and occasionally wander off into more financial/business-type texts if they take my fancy, just to make sure I don't get too entrenched in one style.

But I'd say 90% of my work is legal.

It's like a marketing brochure, then I'll go back to what I've been doing since early August: Birth certificates and police records.
They reproduce and multiply with every certificate I translate. It seem like a never ending story.

Just finished short businessy text Sep 27, 2007

.. but no weekend for me this time round. You see, when I started up, I offered a 24-7 service to get clients interested and now I'm stuck with the reputation and often get sent things on Thursday or Friday for Monday delivery. You only reap what you sow...

Which has been 45% of my work for the last 2 or 3 months. A further 45% has been literary, and then a 10% of nice marketing texts of various sorts.

Best,
Eva
