I don't take any medication to manage stress.
P.S. My best stress therapy has been to never bite off more than I can chew…

I once had to talk to an elderly man to complete my medical for an organization. He asked if I had depression. I said yes, I was depressed in my time when I parted ways with my girlfriend. He said oh, that's life. He didn't speak any English, so I had to stretch my French to make myself understood. Later on, I answered the same questions when speaking to a Chinese-looking young man. He inferred that I was a depressive type and didn't bother to seek medical attention to get rid of my depression. ... That's when I found out that people in the West consider depression to be a condition that needs to be treated with medication. Ladies and gentlemen, I come from Soviet Russia! We don't do it this way over here. P. S.: Whatever I wrote only relates to people from my generation. Don't know how Gen Z and beyond do their thing ▲ Collapse

Taking medication to manage stress is like treating the symptom, not the root cause. You need better food, better sleep, better social life. Medications can’t provide that.
Don’t know about Gen Z. We used to have to go out, endure shame, endure stress, endure peer pressure, and then eventually reach homeostasis. Today they just skip all these steps by going online/on TikTok without ever processing anything.

Finance questions, personal life questions, perhaps next time consider sexual life and health edition? “Stress” medications lead to erectile dysfunction, it’s a scientific fact. You thought you could get something without a price to pay? Tough luck happiness pills, tough luck.

I think it goes beyond what some of us mind or don't mind. Any bit of data we post on a website is liable to be scraped by bots for all sorts of purposes, most of them nefarious. The least amount of personal data I fill in in any kind of website, no matter how legitimate, the better I am.

Stress is excess of present, so you are overthinking o doing many tasks at the same time. Do not forget to do exercise and talk to people because they are gold mines. Remember, God loves you as well!

Polls are usually proposed by members and most proponents opt to stay anonymous.
The real issue is that ProZ poll answers are not anonymous — they haven't yet managed to implement a system that allows for it.

True. That's what I've been doing with all those AI-related polls. But that wasn't my point. In the previous poll asking about our financial situation, someone deleted their post after Zea warned us all that it might not be prudent to tell the entire world about it. The hope was to prevent people from making the same blunder.
And sure, you can blame them for lacking common sense. But IMHO, asking a personal question like this in a public forum to begin with is rather unethical. How'd you feel if a random stranger approaches you in the supermarket and asks, “Ma'am, are you taking drugs?”
P.S. I'm not judging anyone taking medications to manage their stress. You do you.

What makes this question weirder than just the topic is the assumption that there's medication for work-related stress. Anti-depressants were mentioned here, but depression is not the same thing as stress. There are beta blockers for performance anxiety, and benzodiazepines for anxiety disorders, but I don't think that's the kind of stress we're facing either.
Then there are Silicon Valley types 'microdosing' psychedelics or ketamine, or...

Asking for a friend.
Those are the natural alternatives they included as an option.

That's why I usually vote the N/A option without any comment, because it is much more polite than commenting what I think (which is “ain't your f*#king business!”). | | | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you take any medication to manage stress? | Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
