Italian to Chinese
I'm at the beginning for my experiance as a translator.
Chinese-Italian.
Two years ago i was in a conference and a chinese expert on italian language defined Italian like the "panda language", because is struggling for its extinction. i laughed at that time, but now i'm facing this difficulty: i'd like to improve my chinese, i'd like to attend to some GOOD courses.

I hope that some of you can suggest me some Master Courses, or PhD. Now i'm living in China, Beijing, i hope to have the oppurtunity to remain here for long time:-)
Another small question, which are the first steps dealing with publishing houses?
Chinese-italian interpreter----there are some specialized courses?
and what about chinese-italian good livel interpreter?

It's strange, as an Italian native and English speaker, you only translate from Italian to Chinese.
If you want to improve your Chinese, you can also accept jobs from Chinese to Italian and from English to Chinese.
BTW, as a fresh hand translator, it may not be easy for you to receive jobs where the target language is not your native language, so the most possible pairs you can succeed are from Chinese to Italian and from English to Italian if you are interested.

A course will be helpful but not all. Anyway, what level is your Chinese? If you decide to be a translator/interpreter, I think you must reach a certain fluency? BTW, if you can also offer English to Italian translation, drop me a line by the insite mail.

I work with Mandarin and English into Italian. My feeling is that in recent years requests for MandarinItalian translations have increased a lot, especially from Italian into Mandarin. Many Italian companies want to work with China, so they need their website, brochures, catalogues, manuals etc... translated into Chinese.

Nevertheless, my advice is: focus on translations into your mothertongue, especially if your knowledge of the target language is limited. Translating into a foreign language is difficult and it is easy to do a lot of mistakes. If you can provide good quality translations, you will earn trust from clients and sooner or later will get regular assignments from them.
In order to do that, you have to improve your knowledge of Chinese a lot, by reading, taking language courses, speaking with the people etc... . You should also try to specialize in one (or more) specific fields and let go translation jobs in other fields if you are not skilled enough to complete them.
I am sorry, I have no idea about translations for the publishing sector, because I do not work in this field.
As a conclusion, if you really want to work with translations, you have to be very patient and determined at the beginning, because the start is not easy, but if you are good, I am sure that you get more and more work and a lot of satisfaction.
