Shock chlorination, also called super chlorination, is the process of disinfecting and/or completely sanitizing drinking water with a high concentration of chlorine. Shock chlorination is the most widely recommended means of treating bacterial contamination in privately maintained home water systems such as wells, springs and cisterns.
