English term

pigeonholing—the act of categorizing or labelling

English to Arabic Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. التصنيفات الاجتماعية للأشخاص
I kind of find it difficult to find translations for these words within the same sentence which are seemingly very close to each other in terms of significance.
Some help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

In simple terms, "pigeonholing" means putting people or things into boxes or categories based on specific traits or characteristics, without considering their unique qualities or circumstances. It's like sorting things into different compartments without taking into account their individual differences.

* Categorizing or labelling in general is simply putting things into groups based on shared characteristics. It's a useful way to organize information and make sense of the world.
* Pigeonholing, however, refers to sticking something into a category too rigidly or unfairly. It often ignores the complexities of what you're trying to categorize and relies on stereotypes.

For example, if you say someone is "just a jock" because they're good at sports, that's pigeonholing. They might also be intelligent, artistic, or interested in many other things.
