German term

suchender Blick

German to English Medical Medical (general) Pediatrics
Child with an unexplained developmental disorder:

"Seit dem 14. Lebensmonat, kurze Episoden mit fehlender Raktion, suchendem Blick, Abfall der Saettigung.
Is it simply "searching look/gaze"?

I cannot find any confirmation in online articles on dev. disorders.

Pediatricians and neurologists are especially welcome to comment!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Harald Moelzer (medical-translator)

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Anne Schulz Feb 7, 2021:
I agree, "suchender Blick" is not a technical term, but just a description in general words, of what the child does during these episodes.
Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Feb 7, 2021:
@ Lirka There is no official term. It's entirely up to you.
Lirka (asker) Feb 6, 2021:
Sorry, typo, "Reaktion", of course! Unfortunately, it's not possible to edit the Qs.
Kim Metzger Feb 6, 2021:
mit fehlender Raktion?
Lancashireman Feb 6, 2021:
nystagmus? wandering gaze? darting eyes? I associate a 'searching gaze' with someone deliberately trying to stare you out - a long steady look, as if they are trying to penetrate into your deepest soul! From the other symptoms described, this seems unlikely.
José Patrício Feb 6, 2021:
suchende Blick - searching eyes; searching glance; searching gaze; constant looks; searching eye; - Linguee

For example, parents may notice that their child doesn't make eye contact (wandering gaze..

Note from asker:
Hmm...I like it, but I wonder if that's the "official" term. Let's see if it gets confirmed...

disagree Eric Zink : "a look from someone who is trying to find out as much as possible about someone else’s thoughts and feelings" does not fit here. A searching gaze would have a very definite object. The one in the context provided does not appear to.

staring spell; med. absence seizure

'Pediatricians and neurologists are especially welcome to comment!' - an untreated Austrian female on the street the other week called me a 'Kinderschänder'. I don't know if that counts.
Example sentence:

Staring Spells: When It\'s More Than Daydreaming

The asker, until sidetracked by comments of colloquial language, seemed to be after a medical term or terms unsuggested by anyone else. The rest is anecdotal.

unsteady gaze

Perhaps also simply "averting eye contact" depending on the angle.

"This unsteady gaze could theoretically prevent ADHD athletes from performing as well as non-ADHD peers in activities that involve the tracking of fast-moving objects." https://books.google.com/books?id=C-5Rdgp5ngMC&pg=PA240&lpg=...

wandering eyes

I would suggest

Intermittent exotropia, also called wandering eye, is a type of strabismus (eye misalignment) in which the eyes drift out (exotropia) from time to time.
