I agree with Edward: it would depend on the context in which it appears. I would suggest something along the lines of:
The argument is tenuous/debatable/contentious. Normally lawyers refer to the veracity and robustness of facts and arguments. Arguments which are not robust could be referred to as tenuous, debatable, or contentious.

: I also would suggest "it is a stretch to maintain/assert the argument" if this has to do with the strengths/weaknesses of potential defenses to claims in a lawsuit
