Spanish term

Resulta forzado mantener el argumento

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general)
I am translating the report of a lawyer regarding a complaint and in the text appears the sentence "resulta forzado mantener" I am thinking about "artificial" but I would like to have other options
Thank you in advance

Tenuous/debatable/contentious

I agree with Edward: it would depend on the context in which it appears. I would suggest something along the lines of:

The argument is tenuous/debatable/contentious. Normally lawyers refer to the veracity and robustness of facts and arguments. Arguments which are not robust could be referred to as tenuous, debatable, or contentious.

Kind regards,

Thank you, Tom!
agree Laura Messer : I also would suggest "it is a stretch to maintain/assert the argument" if this has to do with the strengths/weaknesses of potential defenses to claims in a lawsuit
