French term

mode manuel à rapports courts

French to English Law/Patents Mechanics / Mech Engineering levier de control de vite
Hi,

...This configuration program comprises for example boxes to tick in order to activate, for example a hand brake mode, a short ratio manual mode, or even a short ratio sequential mode.

Your help is required :)
Thank you!

Discussion

silvester55 May 26, 2011:
here is what you need Manual or sequential mode : In this mode, automatic gear change is disabled and the driver can change at will through the ratios between first and fourth gear, subject to a number of safety overrides including the following .And good luck !
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) May 26, 2011:
@silvester I was just thinking, since I have "mode manuel and mode séquentiel" I may as well put "short manual mode ration and short sequential mode ratio" does that sound ok? :)
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) May 26, 2011:
thank you!
silvester55 May 26, 2011:
@ loulou maybe you better use " short gear ratio " , it is more accurate I think .

short ratio manual transmission

A manual transmission, also known as a manual gearbox or standard transmission (informally, a "manual", "straight shift", "stick (shift)" (US), or "straight drive") is a type of transmission used in motor vehicle applications. It generally uses a driver-operated clutch, typically operated by a pedal or lever, for regulating torque transfer from the internal combustion engine to the transmission, and a gear stick, either operated by hand (as in a car) or by foot (as on a motorcycle).
A conventional manual transmission is frequently the base equipment in a car; other options include automated transmissions such as an automatic transmission (often a manumatic), a semi-automatic transmission, or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Manual transmissions are characterized by gear ratios that are selectable by locking selected gear pairs to the output shaft inside the transmission.

A short gear is one with a low gear ratio, and a tall gear is one with a high gear ratio. For example, a 3.321:1 gear is shorter than a 1.902:1 gear.

In racing, you want to set up your gears so that you can use the full potential of your engine in each gear. In other words, it is not useful to have a 5-speed transmission if you?re driving on a relatively low-speed track where you never shift up to fifth gear. In this case, you could install a shorter final gear, which will have the effect of shrinking the difference between gears and allowing you to use the fifth gear.
